Inaugural Rowing symposium in Uganda confirmed

The first ever Rowing symposium in Uganda has been confirmed.

This three day brain storming symposium shall start this Thursday at the Uganda Olympic Committee headquarters, Lugogo in Kampala.

Day two and three will take place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Sarah McQuade from United States of America, the strategic Development Consultant and Rachel Davis a FISA Coaching expert from Zimbabwe are the two guests who will preside over the symposium.

Rodrick Muhumuza, the only FISA local expert is in charge of the workshop and the entire project.

He shared with Kawowo Sports about the expected deliberations and fruits from this symposium.

We expect to come up with a strategic plan for Rowing over the next five years. We shall review the governance structure and re-align it with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and FISA structures.

Also, we shall review the constitution as well as reviewing the athletes selection policy for international events

The symposium is expected to drive to the formulation of the Uganda Rowing Technical Advisory Board.

This board which will oversee the delivery of the workshop outcome.

The board has thirteen members drawn from the rowing fraternity, UOC,  general sports practitioners as well as others.

“In total the URTAB has thirteen members who will be the core group at the workshop,” Muhumuza adds.

The media will have a special session on Thursday at 5 p.m at the UOC headquarters.

Uganda Rowing Association has struggled to organize local events for now close to two years.
