Uganda Volleyball team for Zone V named

Dickens Otim

National Volleyball team coach Nason Bwesigye has named a 13-man team that will represent Uganda at this year’s Zone V tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

After a few weeks of serious training, Bwesigye and his assistant Amon Aine named the team on Tuesday evening ahead of the journey to the Rwanda capital.

Sport-S center player Dickens Otim will captain the side with receiver-attacker George Aporu as his assistant.

Hard-hitter Daudi Okello, who plies his trade in Bulgaria, is also part of the team that will tussle it out with the Zone’s best.

Sky Volleyball Club’s Kathbert Malinga, recently suspended by Uganda Volleyball Federation for playing in the Kenya and Ugandan league simultaneously, also makes the cut.

Nicholas Dheyongera and Ivan Ongom are the notable absentees from the team. Dheyongera was not summoned while Ongom is out injured.

The Zone V tournament is set to start July 21-27 in Rwanda.
