USPA July Sports Personality:
- David Emong
Athlete David Emong has been on Monday voted as the Nile Special Uganda Sport Press Association (USPA) Sports Personality for the month of July 2017.
The sports journalists, under their binding umbrella body voted Emong who won a gold medal at the recent 2017 World Para athletics championships in London.
Emong won the T46 1500M, thus becoming the first Ugandan ever to win a gold medal in the Para games.
Sabiiti Muwanga, the USPA president remarked;
As Sports journalists, we always convene each month to recognize the outstanding sports personalities for the previous months.
This is one way of motivating the sportsmen and women who toil on the field of play.

Emong was nominated by veteran Vision Group sports journalist Silvano Kibuuka and seconded by Star TV presenter Francisco Bwambaale.
Mukoova, a woodball player who won 2 gold medals and 1 silver at the 5th Uganda international was nominated by Innerman Radio’s Solomon Ssaka and seconded by Prime Radio’s Ronnie Mayanja.
She was nominated by Chimp reports’ Joel Muyita and seconded by Kawowo Sports’ David Isabirye.
KCCA’s Paul Mucureezi was nominated by Clive Kyazze and seconded by FUFA f.m’s Hamza Nsereko.
Emong tallied 395 votes, ahead of woodball player Joan Mukoova (335), Javelin and Discuss thrower Josephine Joyce Lalam (275) and Uganda Cranes cum KCCA forward Paul Mucureezi (245).
The Uganda Cranes team that white washed South Sudan 5-1 in the return leg of the CHAN 2018 qualifiers, the World mountain running team and the Uganda Rugby Cranes were all commended.
At the same assembly, the USPA members learnt this this year’s road safety campaign will take place in Wobulenzi, Luweero.
