Kalungi assist almost hands Independence win but late equalizer spoils party

Uganda Cranes’ Henry Kalungi almost won it for Charlotte Independence but a late equaliser from Jordan Hamilton made sure  Toronto FC II had to share the spoils.

Kalungi training with teammates before the match

Kalungi made an assist for Jaime Siaj in the 79th minute, the latter putting the Eastern conference leaders ahead on Thursday.

Siaj tucked home a finish into the right corner off a pass in the left wing from Kalungi who had beaten his man. Jordan Hamilton however scored in stoppage time.

Hamilton broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half with a low finish from the left side of the penalty area.

The Independence (11-3-7, 40pts) leveled just past the hour-mark, however, as a cross from the right by Joel Johnson deflected into the net as Pais was unable to claim cleanly.

Independence found the lead with 11 minutes to go but the homeside salvaged a leveler to survive walking away empty handed.
