Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) on Saturday elected Wallace Karia as the new president to steer the East African country for the next 4 years.
Karia took over the presidency during the Elective Assembly held in Dar es Salaam. He amassed 95 votes out of the valid 125 votes.
In total, 128 votes were cast and 3 were invalid. Former Tanzania Kilimanjaro star Ally Mayay Tembele and Richard Shija managed 9 votes each, Iman Madega got 8, Mwakalebela (3) and Emmanuel Kimbe managed a single vote.
Immediate former president Jamal Malinzi did not stand for the election despite earlier expressing interest for the seat.
Malinzi, along other federation officials were accused of 28 counts of corruption, among others fraudulently allocating Tanzania Brewers’ sponsorship money for personal use.
Malinzi had succeeded Leodegar Tenga in October 2013 and had indicated he would go for a second term in office that materialized.
