Uganda national boxing team, the Bombers are stuck in Germany following their failure to clear hotel dues.
The team comprising three boxers, Captain Muzamir Kakande, Geoffrey Kakeeto, David Ayite plus officials Fred Kavuma, team coach Patrick Lihanda and Tonny Ssekabira traveled to the foreign country to feature at the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships.
Ayite was left out of the competition’s entry list because rules did not permit the boxer to fight in the space of 6 months after suffering from a knock out in his previous fight.
Welter-weight fighter Kakande lost to USA’s Randall Quinton while Bamtam-weight fighter Kakeeto suffered a knockout against Angel Jarquin of Nicaragua.
Public Relations Officer of the Uganda Boxing federation, Fred Kavuma spoke to Chimp Reports, confirming their situation at the hotel. “It is true, we have been locked in this hotel and we are not allowed to leave until we clear the bills. We are completely stuck,” Kavuma revealed.
David Ayite is reportedly missing as well. It is thought he escaped from the contingent and crossed over to Sweden.
The Bombers were flagged off at Lugogo close to two weeks ago. Three days prior, the team had received food relief from Betway; fruits, eggs, bread and milk.
