After being bridesmaids in the first three circuits of the National Sevens Championship, Buffaloes finally manned up and got a wife of their own.
Edgar Lemerigar’s charges defeated Heathens 12-7 to win the final and register their first victory of the season.
Fred Odur crossed the white line in the first half but Paul Epilu missed the conversion early in the tense game.
Chris Lubanga then found Kenneth Okongo with a cross kick and the winger’s try was converted for Heathens to lead 7-5 at half time.
The second stanza provided as much tension as the first half but Buffaloes waited for the last laugh.
The high pressing game of the Buffaloes forced Heathens into endless errors and a penalty try was awarded to Buffaloes after a faul by Allan Otim.
Buffaloes held on to register their first victory of the season having lost the last three finals.
Buffaloes had earlier defeated Rhinos 15-12 in the semifinal while Heathens needed luck against Warriors.
Muhammad Athiyo’s charges had to win a coin toss to advance to the finals after a scoreless stalemate with a resilient Warriors.
Two time winners this season, Kobs couldn’t make it to the last four after losing 12-0 to Rhinos at the quarter final stage.
With the title race still wide open, teams will now set eyes on the next event on the calendar, the Makerere circuit set for next weekend.
