- Makerere Sevens
- Final: Mongers 21-15 Kobs
Mongers became the fourth team to win a circuit in this year’s National Sevens Championship after claiming the Makerere Sevens on Saturday.
The Entebbe side provided the surprise of the series by beating Buffaloes, Kobs and Heathens to the cup at the Graveyard.
Mongers defeated Kobs 21-15 in the final to blow the title race wide open among the three top sides.
With Buffaloes and Heathens failing to make it past the quarterfinals, Kobs had the chance to capitalize and regain the lead at the top of the table.
Winning at Makerere would have given Kobs the lead but Mongers, who had defeated hosts Impis 14-12 and Rhinos 21-5 in the semis, had other ideas.
Kobs defeated Buzz Pirates 10-7 in the quarterfinal before humbling Rams 15-5 in the semis.
The runner up position leaves Kobs on 91 points, just a point behind leaders Buffaloes.
With one circuit left on the calendar, Buffaloes, Kobs and Heathens will all fancy their chances in the Kitaka Sevens to be hosted by Kobs this weekend.
After five circuits of the season, Kobs have won two circuits while Buffaloes, Heathens and Mongers have managed one each.
