Isabeti Beach Soccer Club has remounted from Nkumba Select, the Uganda Beach Soccer League winners in the 2015/16 season.
A club jointly owned by Isa Assimwe and Betty Nsamba, Isabeti faces a stern test of character when they lock horns with last season’s champions, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in the opening game of the 2017/18 National Beach Soccer League.
According to the fixtures released by the Uganda Beach Soccer Competitions Committee (BSCC), 12 of the total 16 clubs in the Monsoon and Hurrieken group clubs will be engaged with kick off ear marked for noon.
“We are set for action. All the players are ready to rumble. This season, our target is to win the league again,” Assimwe told Kawowo Sports.
Isabeti has the old crop of players available for selection in Lawrence Bakiranze, skipper Roch Somoka, Swaibu Kakwaya, Ibrahim Lubwama, Abdallah Mubiru, Moses Lukyamuzi, Rica Byaruhanga, Derrick Kyambadde, goalkeepers Meddie Kibirige and Joseph Yiga.
MUBS’s Ben Ocen, Ismail Kawawulo, goalkeeper Jamal Maliyamungu are some of the stars expected to give Isabeti a good run of their money.
The Nakawa based institution is coached by Charles Ayiekho Lukula, who is head coach at Uganda Premier League club, Kirinya-Jinja S.S.
Hilary Kimbugwe, the sports tutor at MUBS believes they still have the vigour and stamina to retain the league crown.
Nothing much has changed with us and our opponents. We therefore have the edge to defend the league.
In the other fixtures on the day, new comers Stafford University will face St Lawrence University, MS Sand Lions shall be up against new boys on the block Mutoola Beach.
Meanwhile, another debutant side Nkumba University plays Buganda Royal Institute and Kyadondo Galaticals will crown the day with a tie against Kampala International University (KIU).
Four clubs will not be in action on the opening match day.
Mengo Hospital, Stormers, YMCA and Kabalangala Rangers will all not play for different reasons as confirmed by the UBSA Competitions committee secretary, Sarah Birungi.
MUBS has won the Beach Soccer League title a record three times since inception in 2009.
