Schools Cricket MVP Immaculate Nakisuyi scored a double with 2 runs needed off 2 balls to give the Ugandan Ladies a sweet victory over neighbors Kenya with a ball to spare.
In a tense chase with Uganda needing 20 from 12 balls, youngsters Immaculate Nakisuyi and Rita Musamali held their nerve to help Uganda to a 5 wicket win.
Kenya ladies set 89/5 in their 20 overs with Gertrude Chandiru picking up 2/18 in her 4 overs.
There was a 1st appearance for Carol Namugenyi and she took up the new ball role in the place of Joyce Mary Apio. Naomi Kayondo also returned in the place of Rachel Ntono with Mary Nalule Keeping her place in the side.
In reply, Uganda nearly came up short as they were 30/3 in 10 overs, but Rita Musamali (28) was able to carry her bat and she found a willing partner in Immaculate Nakisuyi (25 not out) who helped Uganda pick up a memorable win.
Kenya had been a thorn in the Uganda’s plans recently denying the U19 boys a place at World Cup at the final hurdle but there wasn’t a repeat of the same today as the Ladies qualified for the final.
They will take on African heavyweights Zimbabwe tomorrow and if fate is that Uganda make it for the global qualifiers, then it will be done.
Zimbabwe are favorites because they have been here lots of times but Uganda has made a good account of themselves so a shock is so much on the cards.
