Ahead of the Zone V Championship that tips off Sunday at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, KCCA Leopards have called upon former player Muhaimina Namuwaya to boost their front court.
Namuwaya, who joined JKL Lady Dolphins at the start of this season, is expected to join her former team as they enter camp Monday in preparation for the week-long event.
The forward will rejoin Martha Soigi to add steel to the KCCA front court. KCCA go into the championship with a much changed side from the team that played in Dar es Salam last year.
Timothy Odeke has since moved on back to Nkumba Marines while former team manager Robert Mugabe is now at Uganda Martyrs’ University (UMU) Flames.
Star player Flavia Okecho also left to join JKL as KCCA embraced a new era under the watchful eye of head coach Roger Sserunyiigo and his assistant Albert Aciko.
Becky Akullo has also called it quits on the floor to don the team manager’s suit.
Cynthia Irankunda was the biggest acquisition in the off season and she will team up with Sylvia Nakazibwe to dictate matters in the KCCA back court.
The other big signing, Grace Wanjiku, will miss the tournament due to the limited slots for the foreigners on the team with Burundians Irankunda and Larrisa Katungeko taking the only two slots available.
KCCA had a tournament to forget last year and will look to recover and compete for the championship this year.
Uganda will be represented by City Oilers and Power in the men’s category while KCCA and UCU Lady Canons will compete in the ladies’ category.
