Table leaders Uganda A return to action this evening looking to preserve their stay at the top of the table in the Africa Online Chess League.

The side, home to Fide Master Harold Wanyama, FM Patrick Kawuma, Walter Okas, David Muwanguzi and International Master Elijah Emojong will lineup against Namibia A placed eighth in the league in the fifth round.

Uganda A sat out the previous games after not being paired, but despite securing just two points that came inform of byes, the side stayed atop. This was after Nigeria B missed an opportunity to go top when they lost to RSA Juniors.

Following Nigeria B’s defeat to the South Africans, Uganda A remains the only unbeaten team in the league. They come up against a team that has managed just two victories since the league started a month ago.

Captain Wanyama and his teammates are favorites to win the contest on Saturday.

In other games, Nigeria B, fourth in the league standings with 14 points will look to return to winning ways when they meet Zimbabwe D who are placed just two places and two points below them. The Zimbabweans will, however, vie for their fourth victory of the campaign.

Uganda B and Uganda C take on Zambia B and Nigeria D respectively each looking to improve on their displays and better their positions in the league. Uganda B have seen victories just thrice and sit seventh in the league with eleven points, while Uganda C have only one win to their name. They are third from the bottom with a paltry five points.

Second placed Zambia A will entertain fellow South Africans Zimbabwe A, while Namibia B come up against Nigeria A. Nigeria A are fifth in the table standings with 13points, and their day’s opponents lie tenth with six points.

After securing that sweet victory against Nigeria B and toppling the side, RSA Juniors seated third are out of action this weekend. They receive a bye which translates to two points.
