Large field of Ugandans to feature at 2017 Rwanda Golf Open

At least 30 Ugandans are expected to take part in the 2017 Rwanda Golf Open that tees off on Wednesday, 15th November at the Kigali Golf Club, Nyarutarama.

Of these, amateurs (including gross) and professionals will be part of Rwanda’s biggest golfing tournament.

According to the Rwanda Golf Union, at least 180 players are expected from Rwanda and around the region, with a few surprise golfers.

Hosts Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Burundi, DR Congo, Trinidad and Tobago will send in participants.

Some of the top gross players in Uganda as Herman ‘Deco’ Mutebi, Becca Mwanja, Adolf Muhumuza and the country’s most on form player Ronald Rugumanyo will take part.

The Ugandan pros expected include Deo Akope, Vincent Byamukama, Phillip Kasozi, Peter Sendaula among others.

The Ugandans will lock horns with Rwanda’s cream de la cream as Jules Dusabe, Ernest Ndayisenga, Olivier Munyaneza and the lone lady, Jenny Linda Kalisa for the biggest share of the total kitty for the paid ranks players, Rwf 5M.

The top gross players in Rwanda include; Emmanuel Rutayisire, Alloys Nsabimana, Allan Niyonkuri, Emmanuel Nkurunziza and Leonard Nkurunziza, Patrick Uwumukiza, Emily Nshimiyimuremyi, Patrick Niyomwungeri, Benjamin Mukisa and Celestine Nsanzuwera.

The tournament will comprise different categories in the two events (subsidiary and the main event) to facilitate the different levels of golfers.

Handicap players (men) between 10-28 and ladies (all handicaps) in the subsidiary event will play as separate entities.

Joseph Victor from Tanzania is the defending champion.
