Maroons and visiting side Soana played out a goalless draw on Wednesday in the Uganda Premier League.

Asaph Mwebaze’s side were the better team on the day, but failure to create clear cut chances coupled with a William Kiibi denied goal prevented them from securing all the three points.

Maroons will rightly point to that goal that was denied after defender Richard Ayiko was adjudged for fouling Soana’s custodian.

Mwebaze had his usual midfield duo of Fred Okot and Ronald Orombi start, but he was forced to make an early change after the former got injured inside ten minutes.

Yahya Luuti replaced Okot, but it was evidently a bad day for Maroons as Luuti was later stretchered off leading to another forced substitution.

Earlier in the first half, Pius Obuya had also been withdrawn due to an injury. The hosts’ three substitutes were all forced.

Soana gladly left Luzira with a point and left the Prisons side in a sorry state after losing key players.

And As a result, Maroons drop a place down to eighth. Likewise, Soana drop a place down. They are tenth in the table standings now.

Next up for Mwebaze and his boys is a Saturday trip to St Mary’s for a meet with Vipers. Soana will host Uganda Premier League champions KCCA at Kavumba Recreational Ground.
