Kampala Hockey Club Stallions enter their second last game of the season knowing that defeat to Wananchi will end their hopes of a maiden National Hockey League title.
The Stallions currently occupy the second spot in the league with 31 points, that’s a point below leaders Wananchi, and a point ahead of Weatherhead placed third.
The stakes are high on both sides. The game against KHC will be Wananchi’s last this season, and to have any hope of retaining the title they’ve won five times in a row, Joshua Opolot and his men have to beat KHC.
But while that’s the case, it won’t guarantee success. They’ll have to pray Weatherhead fails to win one of their remaining two games.
The pressure will definitely be on both sides as Weatherhead play on Sunday, but Wananchi’s chances of success this term are slim as Weatherhead are expected to convincingly win their last two games given they face the bottom two sides Simba and Rockets.
This leaves KHC as the only realistic contender, and they’ll want victory more than their Saturday opponents. All the Stallions need to do is to win their final two games and the trophy will be theirs to lift no matter what happens in Weatherhead’s remaining games.
A draw on Saturday will still be able to hand KHC the title, but only if they win their last game and Weatherhead fails to win one of their games.
