Weatherhead Hockey Club were in unforgiving mood on Sunday as they thrashed Simba 5-2 to go to within three points of National Hockey League title.
Vincent Kasasa’s boys needed to respond well to Wananchi’s 6-2 thumping of Kampala Hockey Club Stallions on Saturday, and they did so in similar fashion subjecting Ali Mohammad’s side to their 12th loss of the campaign.
Simba had proved a hard nut to crack in the first half with the sides heading into recess locked at 1-1, but Weatherhead, well aware that anything other than a win would damage their hopes of a title came back full blast in the second half and four goals were netted.
Former KHC forward Timothy Ntumba who’s been instrumental to the side since his acquisition in September and player-coach Kasasa both netted twice and Peter Elolu scored the other goal.
Victory took the yellow boys’ point tally to 33, that’s two points adrift of Wananchi whose Saturday game was their last this season and who are currently atop the table.
Weatherhead now need to win their final game of the season to end Wananchi’s 7-year dominance in the league. With bottom side Rockets the opposition, the side’s chances stand at 98%.
Shocks in the sports world do happen every day, but with the manner their previous three meets this season ended coupled with Weatherhead’s hunger for success, it is very hard to imagine that Rockets can stage an upset.
