Samuel Kalwanyi made his second start of the season as Wayland Baptist University defeated University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma 96-74 at Hutcherson Center on Thursday.

The Ugandan center alongside five other Pioneers scored in double figures as No. 21 Wayland recorded their second successive win.

Wayland advanced to 11-3 and 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference basketball race while USAO dropped to 12-3 and 3-3.

Ruben Lopez scored 15 points to lead the way for Pioneers, Samuel Kalwanyi and Trevonta Robertson scored 13 points apiece, and Josh Throns, Tyrone Davis and Coronado graduate J.J. Culver each had 12.

Julius Foster poured in 26 points to go with 7 rebounds and 6 assists for USAO, Brandon Scott had 15 points while Brian Robertson chipped in with 12 points .

The game was Kalwanyi’s third since his return from a three-months injury lay-off.

Next up for Pioneers is Mid-America Christian University Evangels on Saturday, January 13.
