Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama paid to tribute to compatriot Michael Olunga after he became first Kenyan to score in Spanish La Liga.
The former Thika and Gor Mahia striker did so in style as he came off the bench to score three times as Girona humiliated Las Palmas 6-0 on Saturday.
Olunga didn’t only become first Kenyan to score a hat trick for the club but also the first player to do so for Girona in the Spanish La liga.
Like many Kenyans and East Africans, Wanyama and Uhuru took to social media to air out their views on the historic feat achieved by their country man.
“Let’s all give Michael Olunga a standing ovation for not only being the first Kenyan to score in the La Liga but also the first Girona player to score a hatrick helping his team thump Las Palmas 6-0…….,” posted Wanyama.
Uhuru congratulated Olunga but also asked him to continue flying the ‘Magic Kenya’ flag high.
Olunga, a student of Engineering is among high profile Kenyan footballers playing their trade in top leagues in Europe.
