Uganda athletes set for fourth national trials, eye Common Wealth target

The fourth series of the national athletics qualifiers will take place this Saturday, 20th January 2018 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

This is part of the athletics campaign to have qualifiers for the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games, slated for 4th to 15th April 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), Namayo Mawerere, at least 40 athletes will take part in the trials..

The Uganda Athletics Federation has zeroed on a provisional squad of 40 athletes anticipated to hit the required qualification standards in marathon as well as in track and field events.

The federation has this year lined up seven trials to assist the athletes hit the required standards for the Games.

In the same vein, athletes bidding to qualify will however have the last chance to qualify during the Jinja National Cross Country Championships.

The national cross country championship will take place on 10th February 2018 specifically for 10,000m runners and 7th trial scheduled for 3rd March at Namboole

The selected final team will then enter residential camp provisionally on March 4, 2018 at the venue yet to be decided.
