Godfrey Nsereko hit his maiden victory as a driver to launch his bid for the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) this year.

A former co-driver, Nsereko debuted as a driver in the 2018 National Rally Championship season opener in Mbarara over the weekend.

“My dream has always been to handle the steering wheel. I decided to start with reading the pace notes just to learn the basics of the rally.

“Being a co-driver helped me a lot with the rally basics. I now understand well whatever my co-driver calls,” he said.

Nsereko was co-driven by Hamza Lwanga and together they won the CRC category ahead of Brian Kabenge.

“The event went on well on our side. I am living my dream now. After our victory in Mbarara, I can now say, I am so in for the CRC title,” he asserted.

The crew only needed to cover 50% of the whole event as required by the new CRC regulations. Only six stages were done by the CRC crews.

“I really preferred the old rule of doing 100% of the event than limiting us to 50%. If we are grooming ourselves for big and competitive events, then why go for less.

“I just wish I could gauge myself with the rest of the two-wheel drive crews throughout the event,” he said.
