Ugandan FIFA Assistant Referee Mark Ssonko is among the 17 officials from CAF shortlisted to officiate at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Ssonko is short listed among the eleven (11) assistant referees.

The others are; Etchiali Abdelhak (Algeria), Hmila Anouar (Tunisia), Camara Djibril (Senegal), Samba El Hadji Malick (Senegal), Jean Claude Birumushahu (Burundi), Range Marwa (Kenya), Achik Redouane (Mauritius), Dos Santos Jerson Emiliano (Angola), Siwela Zakhele Thusi (South Africa) and Safari Olivier (Cote D’Ivoire).

Ssonko also officiated at the 2014 and 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in South Africa and Rwanda respectively.

He officiated at the 2017 U-17 FIFA Cup in India join the rest of the officials during a course in Dubai where the final list will be generated.

In case Ssonko makes the final short list, he will follow the foot steps of retired FIFA Assistant referee Ali Tomusange, who was at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.

The center referees are; Abid Charef Mehdi (Algeria), Diedhiou Malang (Senegal), Gassama Bakary Papa (Gambia), Grisha Bakary Ghead (Egypt), Janny Sikazwe (Zambia) and Tessema Weyesa Bamlak (Ethiopia).
