KCCA 1-0 SC Villa Jogoo
An incredible free-kick from second half substitute Allan Okello was the difference as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) edged Sports Club Villa Jogoo 1-0 in a Uganda Premier League duel at the Lugogo stadium on Thursday.
Okello had replaced returning midfielder Jackson Nunda at the restart of the second half before producing a magical performance that had earlier seen him hit the cross bar as well.
It was an end to end entertaining match that witnessed the two sides miss a couple of goal scoring opportunities.
SC Villa’s Ambrose Kirya had the first chance in the game, three minutes after FIFA Referee Alex Muhabi had kicked off the game.
Kirya shot from 20 yards but goalkeeper Charles Lukwago was well positioned to parry the ball out for a corner kick.
The home side reacted swiftly and earned a corner two moments later. Paul Mucureezi’s in-swinging corner was headed out by defender Denis Okot Oola.
On eight minutes, SC Villa Jogoo George Senkaaba collided with goalkeeper Ssebwato after John Adriko’s telling ball.
The soul searching Jogoos were again at the fore front after 13 minutes.
KCCA defenders failed to clear a dangerous Lwesibawa corner failed but Ssenkaaba shots high of goal from close range.
Ibrahim Sadam Juma had a chance to give the Kasasiro lads the lead but his long range effort kissed the cross bar.
The team sides remained water tight as the opening 45 minutes ended goal-less.
Upon re-start, KCCA called for the first change. Off came Nunda and the pint sized Okello took his place.
Kirya paved way for Simon Sserunkuma on 53 minutes.
Okello hit the woodwork from 30 yards after combining well with Shaban and Kirabira off the right side of the astro turf ground.
On 76 minutes, Jogoo midfielder Allan Kyambadde perfectly controlled a high ball from John Adriko inside the goal area. but goalie Lukwago, who had a field day at office was well stationed to save the shot in arguably SC Villa’s best chance of the second half.
Defender Henry Katongole brought down Shaban, about 25 yards away from goal.
Okello, calm and compose curled home the resultant free-kick through the defensive wall and past goalkeeper Samson Kirya for the lone strike on the day 5 minutes from full time.
The visitors’ efforts to seek for an equalizer hit a dead end.
Isaac Kirabira, Habibu Kavuma, Shaban Muhammed and Hassan Musana were the cautioned KCCA players.
SC Villa’s second half substitute, Musa Mukasa who had replaced the injured Joseph Nsubuga was also booked.
Goalkeeper Lukwago was named the Fortebet man of the match for his incredible saves and affluent game reading throughout the duration of the game watched by a sizable crowd.
KCCA thus attained their 9th victory in 16 games that puts them to second place with 32 points, same points as SC Villa Jogoo.
The reigning league championship are within one point distance off the leaders, and still have a game to play.
The two sides will return to action next Wednesday, 21st February 2018.
KCCA travels to the lake side Fisheries Training Institute play ground to face Masavu as SC Villa Jogoo shall be at their Masaka Recreational Stadium fortress against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
