Depleted Pirates overcome Buffaloes to stay top

Despite being without six first team players, Black Pirates defeated Buffaloes 15-10 in the National Rugby Premiership on Saturday.

Pirates missed services of skipper Ivan Magomu, Baron Kasozi, Raymond Emanzi, Timothy Kisiga, Isaac Rujumba and Desire Ayera who are with the Nations Sevens side preparing for Hong Kong 7s, Gold Coast 7s and the Sevens World Cup.

Sydney Muniafu put Pirates in lead with an unconverted try but it was quickly wiped out by Gerald Ssewankambo.

Stephen Alul put Buffaloes in the lead with a penalty before adding another for the visitors to lead 11-05 at halftime.

After recess the Sea Robbers put Buffaloes under pressure and the visitors succumbed with Daniel Canowira forcing it over the  near the post and Joel Anguyo added the extras for a 12-11 lead.

There after, the hosts opted for points on every penalty earned in Buffaloes half and Anguyo put one away for 15-12 lead and ultimately the win.

With Kobs falling to Rhinos in the late game at Legends, the win helped Pirates open a six points gap at the top with four games to play.
