Samuel Kalwanyi has made his last games for Wayland Baptist University Pioneers count.

The Uganda center/forward who was hampered by a series of injuries in his early college career got back on the floor towards the end of last and has been turning in a shift.

In his senior year and playing his last games for the Pioneers, the fomer City Oilers man turned up the heat at the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament to make the all-star team.

Wayland rolled past University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in the quarter final game with Kalwanyi scoring 17 points to go with 8 boards before pulling down 11 boards in the 78-75 win over Oklahoma City University in the semis.

He exploded offensively in the conference championship game pouring in game high 27 points and grabbed 18 rebounds (all career highs) but Pioneers fell short 90-81 to Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Kalwanyi’s efforts did not go unrecognized as he earned a place on the all-tournament team alongside teammate and guard Tyrone Davis.

After failing in a bid to get an automatic berth at the NAIA Tournament, Wayland could still be selected to play at the nationals as they were leading in the votes outside of the top 25 according to the latest polls released on February 27.

The final polls will be released on Wednesday, March 7 and Wayland is likely make the March 14-20 tournament in Kansas, Missouri.
