El Hadji Diouf has urged Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa’s new kid on the block Percy Tau to consider a move to one of the top European leagues.
The former Liverpool forward who is in South Africa as part of the Moroccan 2026 FIFA World Cup bid representatives described Tau as immensely talented and able to play in any club in World football.
“I spoke to Percy Tau and asked him what he was still doing in the PSL,” he told Safanet. “The boy is good to play for any team in the world including Real Madrid or any of England’s top side. The boy is quality,” he said before he compared him to Liverpool African duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Tau has no reason to still be playing in South Africa. He is more talented than Sadio Mane or even Mo Salah.
About South African football in general, Diouf thinks its high time the footballers opted to play abroad than being comfortable in the PSL revealing it’s the reason the Bafana Bafana fail to perform at higher level.
“I always ask myself why there is no South African playing either in England or Spain yet the country has the most talented players,” he exclaimed. “They are too comfortable playing at home; which is wrong,” Diouf who also played for Portsmouth continued.
The reason why South Africa did well in mid 1990s and late 90s was because the likes of Lucas Radebe, Benni McCarthy and Aaron Mokoena etc. used to play overseas and their international experience told.
Diouf is regarded as one of the best players African has produced.
