After six months away from the cockpit, Ismail Shermohamed is hoping to get the rust out of him in the weekend’s York Rally; the third round of Africa Rally Championship. The rally will be run in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Despite having vivid memories of a rather disastrous York Rally last year, Shermohammed is keen to revive the pace this weekend.
“I have got mixed feeling about York Rally; excited and cautious as well due to what happened before last year. Not rallying for six months may also not help the cause.
“But nevertheless, we will try keep our nerve and grow stage by stage. I am sure every stage finish will give me more confidence to up the pace,” he said.
The former two-wheel drive Africa Rally Champion further explains his strategy for the weekend’s highly anticipated race.
“We are much aware of the fast drivers in the race like Kenya’s Manvir with a stronger car, the R2 cars in South Africa which know they backyard and push hard to have their battle.
“The Gomes brothers as well, especially Leroy who has vast improvement in his pace.
“But I will try enjoying battling with them all and see where I stand after day one. Then we can decide our strategy for the final day.
“All I know, I wont push beyond my limits to reach the other crews. No. I may not have that experience. I will take this as a learning curve and improve as much as possible.
