Ceylon Lions may have turned the page after changing their name from Charity having barely survived the drop last season but it’s not going to be easy to turn fortunes.
Playing their second successive game at Kyambogo Oval, the Lions who “won and lost” the game against KICC were looking to earn their first game of the season.
Heading into the match, Arnold Otwani, Simon Ssesazi and Eddie Agaba were expected to put the runs on the board for Ceylon but it was only Otwani who showed up.
Ceylon Lions were put to bat first and were bundled out in the 36th over with just 157 runs on board, and Otwani was the notable contributor with 47 off 49. Zephaniah Arinaitwe led Strikers attack with bowling figures of 4/17 in 6 overs and Frank Akankwasa (2/23 in 6.3 overs) came in handy.
In the chase, Strikers needed just need just 31.2 overs to knock off the Ceylone Lions’ total, losing five wickets in the process – three of which were claimed by Abraham Oduch.
Man of the Match, Frank Akankwasa starred with the bat hitting a half century (not out) to help Strikers to a five wicket win.
