Wanders fall short to Avengers by 2 runs in season opener

Wanderers lost their opening game of the season to Division II newcomers Avengers in Jinja over the weekend.

While the Jinja Oval has been a good hunting ground for the second oldest club in the country, Avengers held their own to pin a two-run loss to Wanderers.

Captain Denis Musali won the toss and chose to put Avengers to the bat and the division fresh men set a competitive 204 in their 50 overs while losing 9 wickets in the process.

Chitan Kerai was the notable contribute to the total, knocking 60 off 72 balls. Adonia Waibale and Zubair Tembo were the star men for Wanderers picking 3 wickets apiece.

In the chase, Musali put on a batting clinic during which he hit the first century of the season. The Wanderers skipper knocked 115 off 141 balls before he was caught with his side short by 6 runs.

Oneeb Tariq 4/40 and Arun Pachaal 3/28 were the chief tormentors of Wanderers batting line-up.
