It’s no longer a matter of whether, but when… JKL Lady Dolphins will surely be crowned the Women’s National Basketball League champions for the 2018 season.

Lady Dolphins beat UCU Lady Canons, 56-49, on Monday night at Lugogo Indoor Stadium to take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Jamila Nansikombi was again the star of the night, pouring in an efficient game-high 27 points. The small forward shot 11-of-15 from the field, connecting on 4-of-5 from deep.

Both sides played with caution, and at a slow pace. JKL took opening quarter 15-10, and UCU cut the deficit to a single point by halftime with an 18-14 second quarter.

After the long break, the game remained a close contest with either side taking turns. However, with the game tied at 46 with just over 3 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Nansikombi found Muhayimina Namuwaya (7 points) in the lane for a lay-up for the lead.

Nansikombi then connected from beyond the arc for a five point JKL lead with two and a half minutes to play. UCU never found a way back as Hope Akello laid in a dagger and Zama finished off UCU with a three-pointer.

Ritah Imanishimwe contributed 8 points for Lady Dolphins.

Brenda Kayaga (12 points) and Zainah Lokwameri (11 points) were the only Lady Canons to reach double-figures in scoring. Rose Akone picked game high 10 rebounds.
