She Cranes off to England for Vitality International Series

On Tuesday, November 27, Uganda She Cranes will play their first International Series match. 

The She Cranes will take on England Roses in the opening match of the three-game series at the Echo Arena in Liverpool – home of the 2019 Netball World Cup.

After a week of vigorous training, the final team of 14 players and nine officials was flagged off on Thursday afternoon by the State Minister for Sports, Charles Bakabulindi.

The She Cranes squad has three new faces who were not part of the World Cup qualifying campaign in Zambia and have not played for the national side. These are; NIC’s Florence Adunia and KCCA duo, Fauzia Nakibuule and Shaffie Nalwanja.

She Cranes and England Roses recent meeting was during the Commonwealth Games in Australia early this year (April 8), and the Roses won the thriller, 55-49, at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Lilian Ajio, Halima Nakachwa, Peace Proscovia, Ruth Meeme, Rachael Nanyonga and Stella Nanfuka are the only players who faced England in Gold Coast and also named in the squad for the series. Joan Nampungu, Muhayimina Namuwaya and Stella Oyella were unused substitutes.

The Travelling Contingent 

Players: Peace Proscovia, Lilian Ajio, Betty Kiiza, Mary Nuba, Ruth Meme, Muhayimuna Namuwaya, Halima Nakachwa, Joan Nampungu, Stella Nanfuka, Rachael Nanyonga, Stella Oyella, Desire Obua, Florence Adunia, Fauzia Nakibuule and Shaffie Nalwanja.

Officials: Jocelyn Ucanda (Team Manager), Vicent Kiwanuka (Head Coach), Nelson Bogere (Assistant Coach), Alice Alweny (Primary Care), Paul Steven Ataro (Primary Care), Yusuf Kamulegeya (Logistics Officer), Susan Anek (President UNF), Annet Kisomose (General Secretary), Bernard Patrick Ogwel (Head of Delegation).

Meanwhile, England named the team to face Uganda two weeks ago.
