Pensive mood as Uganda Sports Press Association heads to polls

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) 2018 Elective Assembly:

Saturday, 24th November

NCS Headquarters, Copper Chimney Hall

Lugogo, Kampala (9 AM – 2 PM)

The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) will conduct their elective assembly on Saturday, 24th November 2018 at the National Council of Sports (NCS) Headquarters in the Copper Chimney hall.

There is excitement as well as anxiety as the over 150 members convene for one of the most important events on the calendar.

The most competitive position being vied for is that of the association presidency where out-going Vice president Ritah Aliguma, secretary general Patrick Kanyomozi and former treasurer Sam Mpoza are competing are in the race.

The out-going executive of Sabiiti Muwanga (president) will hand over the instruments of power to the successful candidates on the day.

About the presidential candidates:

Sam Mpoza:

He is currently employed at Nation Media Television (NTV). He was a former Treasurer (2008 – 2012) and previously served on the USPA membership committee (2006-2008).

Arguably the most experienced member of the three candidates (joined USPA in 2001), Mpoza believes USPA needs to bring back the stray members to work as one block towards development.

“It will be part of our job to come up with proposals for a process that will guarantee the steady unity of our association” Mpoza states.

Patrick Kanyomozi

Patrick Kanyomozi:

Kanyomozi works at KFM and has been the general secretary of the association since 2016. He enjoys support among many youthful members and plans to turn around the association in the best way possible.

The ability to engage all members of all age groups and his eloquence are some of the key important attributes for candidate Kanyomozi.

Ritah Aliguma:

Aliguma is aligned at the state-owned Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Television. She has been Vice President of the Association since 2014 to Muwanga and seats on the executive of the international sports journalists body.

Aliguma is a known workaholic and hands-on person who eyes continuity of the association good deeds and improve the grey area.

She enjoys the overwhelming support of the body’s historicals and senior members who have wholesomely expressed their allegiance to her.

The elective assembly will be held on Saturday 24th November 2018 at NCS headquarters in Lugogo (Copper Chimney Hall).

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Uganda Premier League Bernard Bainamani will be the Returning Officer for the electoral process.

The elected USPA officials serve two terms of two years in office and are not allowed to contest for the same office thereafter.

USPA was founded 48 years ago by Fred Ssekito.

Former presidents include; Ndiwalana Kiwanuka, Joseph Kabuleta, Douglas Mazune, Mark Namanya and now Sabiiti Muwanga.

7. Dissolving the outgoing executive

8. Voting conducted by the Returning Officer.
