2018 Seniors Golf Open Championship:
1st & 2nd December
At Uganda Golf Club, Kampala
Mode of play: Medal
The year 2018 has witnessed the Uganda Senior Golfing Society quite an engaged entity with a couple of tournaments organized in and out of Kampala.
From Lira, Kampala, Mbarara and lately Kabale, the senior golfers’ family have had a hand in their own tourneys this year, and with ultimate success.
Now returns yet another tourney, a season ender of sorts – the annual seniors open championship at the par 72 Uganda Golf Club, teeing off on 1st December 2018, and climaxing on the subsequent day.
This championship has been powered by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the past three years.
The 2018 edition has once again got a timely Shs 25M sponsorship package from CAA, announced and handed over on Tuesday at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
This timely financial package was officially handed over to the Uganda Senior Golfing Society top executive members by two representatives from the Entebbe aviation company, Viane Luggya (director public relations) and Dr. Tom Davis Wasswa (manager marketing and commercial services).
Viane Luggya, Director Public Relations, CAA
CAA is honoured to sponsor this tournament once again for the third year running. We have seen good value for money. This year’s tournament will kick start our celebrations for the aviation week. This will be our flagship event. We remain committed to the cause of supporting sports growth like we have done in netball and chess
At least 200 golfers of either sex from several clubs in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda are expected to take part in the two day’s tournament whose mode of play is medal.
Dr. Wasswa in his address tagged golf as a tourism sport that is closely related to the aviation industry.
We are hopeful to continue that good and cordial relationship. We shall enter a team in the subsidiary catergory.
Golfing is a tourism product. Given this rationale,it is why we got interested in this game. Many golfers are also frequent travelers with the air transport means.
Dr Tom Davis Wasswa (manager marketing and commercial services, CAA).
Jackson Karyagokwe, the chairman of the Uganda Senior Golfing Society lauded CAA for the sponsorship package as he promised a successful championship.
