National T20 Cup defending champions Challengers flew in two Zimbabwe internationals Timcyen Maruma and Shingi Masakadza for the clash against Kutchi Tigers to show intent that they are ready to defend their title.
The back-to-back winners faced Kutchi Tigers in a repeat of last years final.
Kutchi Tigers won the toss and chose to bat first but they only sparkled in the first over when Nanji Phindoria took on Shingi Masakadza but after that they lost wickets regularly failing to construct meaningful partnerships to build on. They could only manage a team total of 132.
With the batting line up that Challengers had assembled for Kutchi Tigers 132 was never a par score as the defending champions were barely tested racing to a nine wicket win.
In the morning on the same ground, KICC remained unbeaten as their experience helped them deal with the youthful Strikers. They got off to a flyer with Wasim Butt and Suleiman Sharif scoring 60 runs inside only four overs.
Even though Strikers recovered to drag back the game with some wickets, KICC set a commanding 158 with Frank Nsubuga throwing some blows in a late show for KICC to score 42 off 22 balls.
Zephaniah Katungi struck some quick blows for get the chase going but his demise in the second over deflated the chase with only Perry Wazombe (30) and Derrick Bakunzi (30) the resistance for KICC in a contest settled by the returning Irfan Afridi who picked up seven wickets.
The win means KICC will face the defending champions Challengers in the semifinal for a place in the final.
