Ugandan footballer seeks move to South Africa top tier league

Lawrence Ndugga travelled to Highlands Park FC for trials that start Monday.

Uganda U-23 midfielder Lawrence Ndugga is in South Africa to seek greener pastures with Johannesburg based Premier Soccer League side Highlands Park Football Club.

Ndugga has been a player at Botswana top flight outfit Shooting Stars Football Club which he had joined from Zambia’s Nkwanzi F.C.

He arrived in Johannesburg on Friday ahead of trials that commence on Monday, 14th January 2019.

All is well since I arrived here (at Modderfontein Park) in Johannesburg. I have quickly adjusted already to the weather and hopefully, I will excel in the trials.

The bow-legged midfielder has previously played at Bright Stars, Kira Young and recently BUL in the Uganda Premier League.

He also had a semi-professional stint with Cyprus club, Cyprus’ Mormenekse F.C during the 2016/17 season.

At Shooting Stars in Botswana, he had become a household name with five goals to his name and eight assists.

In case the deal is a success, he will join a couple of other Ugandans in the South African top tier league in Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns), Allan Kateregga (Cape Town City) and Godfrey Walusimbi (Kaiser Chiefs).

Dubbed the ‘Lions of the North’, Highlands Park Football Club is currently ninth in the PSL on the 16 team log.
