Rally of South Africa will have only sixteen crews competing in the second round of the Africa rally championship that starts on Friday in the traditional Mpumalanga province.
That is a shocking entry compared to the previous events.
The reigning ARC champion Manvir Baryan from Kenya and Zambia’s Leroy Gomes are the only foreign crews.
Baryan currently leads the championship with 50 points after his impressive run in the opening round in Ivory Coast.
The Kenyan is expected to put up an even strong performance.
Maximum points from South Africa will give Baryan an upper hand in the title with five rounds left in the championship.
Leroy and Urshlla Gomes will be giving there newly acquired Ford Fiesta R5 its first regional outing.
The Zambian crew is however not fully committed to the African championship.
The crews will cover competitive distance of 208.37kilometres in the two days.
