
Uganda’s top squash player Michael Kawooya,finished a respectable 13th position in the Prince Grand Prix squash tournament at the Parkview Squash Center in Johannesburg,South Africa.
Kawooya started his run in the tournament with a lose against South Africa’s Thoboki Mohohlo losing 3-0 his next game he lost to Ken Mwape of Zambia 3-0 by a walk over.
However the Ugandan top seed who was invited for the tournament for training and to participate recovered and beat South Africa’s Hernan Guidi and Grant Vilijoen 3-0 respectively to end 13th out of 16 top draw players.
“It was a worthwhile tournament for me and I learn’t a few things here and there,” Kawooya said. “I was advised to take part in more tournaments if I want to improve my game and also gain the necessary experience.”
Kawooya received the invitation through the Parkview Squash Center that is managed by tournament winner Graig Vander Wath,who is a 2012 Men’s World Squash Championship holder.
The tournament that attracted players from Botswana,South Africa,Zambia,Swaziland,Malawi,Zimbabwe and Uganda. Bank of Uganda,Kampala Club Limited,Uganda Squash Rackets Association,Castrol Mogas,Castle Lite and the squash fraternity sponsored his maiden trip to this tournament.
