
Tanzanian lady golfers dominated the Uganda Ladies Amateur Open golf championship that ended with 22 year old Angel Eaton from Dar es Salaam winning the prestigious tournament at the par 72 Kitante golf course on Sunday.
An emotional Eaton ended the 54 hole event with a four
stroke lead to beat her compatriot Iddy Madina and score of 225 gross to claim this tournament for the first time.
“It was really tough for me to win here and am grateful to my grandparents who made it possible for me to take part in this tournament,” Eaton said. “I was under alot of pressure and thought I wouldn’t win here. I must give credit to my competitors they gave me a good challenge during the three days of action.”
Tanzania had five ladies in the top five positions with Iddy Madina and Hawa Wanyeche finishing second and third respectively with scores of 229 gross.
The tournament has dominated by youthful golfers with Zambia fielding two 15 year old golfers in Tina Nawa and Divanshi Naik.
Last year’s winner Flavia Namakula finished fourth with an aggregate score of 234. “My driver was my biggest obstacle in my game and with me changing my swing it just got worse and worse I must give credit to the Tanzanian golfers they really played some good golf,” Namakula stated.
The three day tournament was sponsored by Qatar Airways,Crown Beverages,Fresh Diary,Nile Breweries,Housing Finance,Orange,MTN,Leading Edge,Soothing Spa,Hwang Sung Jireh Beauty Products,Saint Augustine University and Multiple Industries.
