In just less than four months after taking charge of the team, Frenchman Henri Michel has quit as the coach of the Kenyan national team.

“I could not find an amicable agreement within the deadlines regarding my compliance with several provisions of the contract.” read part of a statement released via the French Embassy to Kenya.

Michel added that he had already sent a letter to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) informing it of his resignation.

The statement did not elaborate on exactly which parts of his contracts Michel was unhappy with.

There had been speculation about his future after he decided not take charge of Kenya’s tie again Burundi on Sunday in the African Nations Championship.

Instead James Nandwa coached the side that lost 1-0 in the first leg of the opening round of qualifying for the tournament for locally-based players.

He began his career in Nairobi back in August and oversaw just two friendly games against Tanzania and South Africa, which both ended in defeats.

Michel further courted controversy by shunning the east and central African regional championship, the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, branding it a ‘useless’ tournament.

Nandwa took charge of the team at the Cecafa Senior Challenge, where Kenya finished as runners-up to hosts Uganda.
