Tanzanian lady golfer Iddy Madina, made a dream debut as she claimed the third edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Ladies Golf Open at the par 71 Entebbe Golf club carding a score of 147 gross over two day’s of exciting golf on Saturday.
The Arusha Gymkhana golfer maintained a consistent rhythm to stave off last year’s winner Flavia Namakula and her close friend Irene Nakalembe, in a game where she recorded one birdie on the unpredictable 18th hole to claim her first major trophy in Uganda. “I feel happy coming here and winning the Entebbe Ladies Open on my first attempt,” a smiling Madina said. “My opponents I was playing with gave me a good run on the course and next year I will come back to defend this title, but this time I will bring more ladies from Tanzania.”
Last year’s winner Flavia Namakula, had an off day on the course with a score of 153 nett. “I just don’t know what happened to my game today,” a puzzled Namakula stressed. “Things just didn’t go fine for me even when I thought I would claw back after the tenth hole on the back nine.”
Entebbe’s top lady golfer Irene Nakalembe with a score of 154 gross was runner-up. Vincent Byamukama, beat 15 golfers to win the professionals section.
Jasper Kamukama, the Uganda Ladies Golf Union president won the first edition in 2011, followed by Flavia Namakula, who won last year’s edition.
This year’s edition the third of its kind attracted players from Tanzania,Rwanda,Kenya and players from Toro,Jinja,Kampala,Fort Portal it was sponsored by Nile Breweries under their brand Castle Lite, Rwenzori Premium, Spedag Group.
The Entebbe Golf Club organised tournament is growing is stature and the organiers are promising to make it bigger and better however they are seeking for it to be included on the Uganda Ladies Golf Union calendar. This year a group of 12 girls from Kabarole made their debut in this tournament.
