27th July: CHAN Return Leg

Uganda Vs Tanzania, Namboole Stadium (4:00 p.m)

(Uganda leads 0-1 on aggregate)

Build-up Result:

Cranes 3-2 Kobs

Suprises will never cease to rock planet earth. Nelson Ssenkatuuka, a virtually unknown entity in local football has earned a maiden call-up to the Uganda Cranes team after an impressive performance in a build-up game at Namboole Stadium.

As the Kobs team played a build-up match with the Cranes on Wednesday evening, none of the Kobs players never thought of a call-up to the Senior side, bearing in mind, it is now less than 48 hours to the kick-off of the return leg CHAN fixture with Tanzania, who arrived that same evening.

Cranes Head Coach, Micho has surprised many when he named Mbogo Clan striker, Nelson Ssekatuuka to the Cranes team , replacing the sacked Henry Oguti and David Kasirye. “I need results, and if you show me that you are ready to play, i entrust you”, Micho is quoted to have said.

In the friendly game played Cranes beat the junior side 3-2. Left winger Brian Majwega opened the scoring on 10 minutes before strikers Frank Kalanda and Simon Okwi netted in the 30th and 67thminutes respectively. Entebbe Football Club and Lugave Clan Striker, Abram Ndugwa pulled one back for the Kobs in the 70th minute before Nelson Ssenkatuuka’s late 80th minute strike gave the scoreline a respectable look.

Micho is desperately seeking for a sharp striking combination having lost his two stikers Tonny Odur (groin injury) and Patrick Edema (in trials with Portgual side). The duo started the first leg that Cranes won 1-0 in Dar es salaam. The aggregate winner over the two legs qualifies to the CHAN finals in South Africa next year.

The Cranes resume training on Thursday.
