Kenneth Gimugu, lawyer from Entebbe Boxing Club has been elected the new Uganda Boxing Federation President.
The Entebbe Boxing Club representative beat Kyadondo West Member of Parliament, Issa Kikungwe (Zana Boxing Club) by 7 votes. Gimugu tallied 31 votes to Kikungwe’s 24 in a closely contested election presided over by Ruth Ssebatindira at the Uganda Olympic Committee Offices on Saturday.
“Its now the time to forget the factions and get down to work”, the confident looking lawyer spoke to the Kawowo Sports Scribe in an exclusive interview shortly after the elections that attracted 64 delegates, though a handful of them missed the exercise for different reasons forwarded.
Lt Col Muwanguzi was elected unopposed as vice president in charge of administrative issues while Dr James Ssekajugo will man the technical affairs.
Simon Barigo is the general Secretary. Eddie Ggulu beat Rose Nanyonjo to the finance post tallying 39 to 16 votes.
Paul Ayiasi will be the Organsing Secretary, Fred Kavuma the Publicity while Annet Balegga who beat Lillian Nanyondo by 33-22 will be the women’s representative on the executive.
This was the second time that the election were being held after an earlier attempt at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium during the start of the year. Some candidates were not deemed fit to hold the post and the elections were thus postponed.
Gimugu starts a new era of boxing in the country that has been time and over again been dogged by administrative wrangles.
