Makerere University Vs Kampala University (Muk grounds)
Juma Shaban Omara may be mistaken for an ordinary simple looking boy at the first time encounter off the soccer playing turf.
He poses a lazy diminutive structure, but for what he misses on the physical aspect is compensated by his aggressiveness, sharpness, dribbling abilities and the classic lethal clinical finishes once on the soccer arena.
Omara single handedly destroyed the University Football league’s whipping boys- MUST on Friday as he netted a quick first half hat trick to take his personal goal tally to 9 in 10 games played and help the Nakawa based institution rise to the 3rd place on 22 points, two adrfit of Nkumba University.
“I always play according to instructions and i respect my team mates”, Omara testified to Kawowo Sports after the MUST massacre. As early as the 4th minute of the match played on a wet Nakawa surface, signs of a MUST white wash were imminent.
Goalie Rodgers Mwavu spilled a seemingly harmless Julius Malungumu low drive and Omara was in the right place at the right time to tap home the game’s opener. MUST Captain, Nelson Turyakira , scored an own goal in the 17th minute to extend the home team’s lead.
The goal was as a result of another blunder by goalie Mwavu, something that prompted Coach Ali Tabuley to send him for an early shower as he brought in Phillip Lusiba. Lusiba was however treated to a rude welcome as Omara easily beat him for MUBS’ third and fourth goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes respectively.
Mbarara’s Siraje Musindo, the University league’s most consistent and prolific player, once again underlined that statement in bold with a well converted penalty after Derrick Busingye had felled him in the forbidden area on the 32nd minute mark. Musindo now heads the scoring chart with 11 games from 10 games.
MUBS added two more strikes from Julius Malungumu (67th) and an icing on the cake Henry Wanyama goal in the 75th minute. Wanyama had earlier on missed two golden one -on- one opportunities with Lusiba to beat.
Perhaps, MUBS’ party moods were dampened following an 88th minute send off for Midfielder, Jessy Lukoki by the day’s man in black, Faizo Nsubuga. The red card means he will miss MUBS’ away trip to the current log leaders, Nkumba University (on 24 points) next Thursday.
“I will surely miss Jessy’s services for the Nkumba affair, but i have a full squad of 25 players to pick from”, MUBS coach, Ayeiko confessed after the game His opposite number, Ali Tabuley attributed the bitter loss to the wet surface and goal keeping blunders.
Action resumes on Saturday as 5th placed Makerere University faces the log current second best team, Kampala University.
The University Football league is exclusively organized by Red Rhino and is proudly sponsored by Nile Special, Crown Beverages under the Pepsi brand, Hard Ware World, Air Uganda, UAP Insurance, Igara Tea and Rwenzori Mineral Water.
