Three moto cross riders Fortune Ssentamu, 10, Arthur Blick, 40 and the guest free style entertainer, Nick De Wit, in his early 20’s share a lot in common.
They are a rare breed of moto-cross riders, each harboring different quite unique features and riding styles from the other.
At the 7th round of the national moto-cross mountain Dew championships staged at the Uganda motorsport Arena in Busiika, off Gayaza road, many a motocross lover was left with the justification to the opening statement.
All the 3 rode and won with passion in different events they participated in and left the crowd yearning for more.
“For me, we I see Blick, Nick and Ssentamu, my day at motocross is over”, confessed Fred Mugerwa, a motor sport addict who also added the Busiika event on Sunday.
Whereas Ssentamu stretched those sharp bends, Blick out sprinted all the opposition with blistering pace and fashion while Africa’s and world 1 and 3 free styling rider respectively, Nick De Wit continued to defy the natural gravitational force with awesome back flips and somersaults while in the Busiika Skylines.
2013 USPA motocross rider of the year, Ssentamu overcame a sluggish starts off the blocks and an early fall off the tricky Busiika track to win the 65 cc category, after claiming 2 of the 3 rounds of the day.
Arthur Blick, a retired rider, only participating due to public demand proved he will remain the main person to beat in the MX 1 Championships after winning all the 3 rounds of the day to become the only rider at the 7th circuits.
Infact, Blick fall off his Biker in the last round and lost close to a minute but still managed to get the top spot after overtaking Barack Orland who led for most of the last round.
The day perhaps belonged to Nick De Wit. When his entertainment bit would come at every interval of each round, crowds ran to gather around the jump hill. The South African born, currently based in the United States never disappointed as his varied antics left wild smiles, deafening applauses and obviously engineered long debates among the fans of how some of those moves are possible.
Other riders worth mentioning include, Ben Nsumba (50 cc), Alestair Blick (85 CC) and Ahmed Tamale (MX2). The latter took advantage of Masaka based Bukala’s absence to win the usually competitive MX 2 race.
Bukala, who was leading the national championship ladder, missed the event following a last minute withdrawal, having suffered an accident while in training (he severed with a simple fracture).
The 7th National Championships were organized by Speedway Motor Club under the Mountain Dew title sponsorship.
Other partners in the organization were the media, Rwenzori Natural Mineral Water, Oil giants, Total Uganda, IAA HealthCare/ Resolution Health, UAP Insurance, Safe Insurance and Fotogenix.
On a sad note a police dog bit off the flesh of an unidentified man at the very close of the championships.
