Playing off handicap zero, the Lugazi based golfer overcame stiff playing conditions that included a heavy storm on the the back 9 holes, on the golf course situated along the banks of Africa’s longest River, The Nile.
“Rain disorganized my play especially on fairways 11, 12 and 13. The balls could not move and to make matters worse, i had forgotten my umbrella at the club house. “, remarked Bukenya, who tied on gross scores of 5 over par for 77 with Entebbe based Robert Oluba and Willy Deus Kitata.
Only 8 players played in the 0 to 5 handicap category and they will again resume rivalry on the closing day action of Sunday.
15 Professional players teed off at noon and by dusk, on form golfer, Vicent Byamukama , playing the same group as Gerrald Ayella registered a two under par scoreline of 70, a stroke better than Mawa Saidi and Herman Mutawe, who tied on one under par , 71.
Home boy, Opio Onito, who had been highly tipped to flourish on home turf faded as early as the opening hole as he tripple bogied on the leading fairway with 7 shots on a par 4.
“I really can not tell what went wrong. It might have been lack of concentration”, Opio, with a sad score murmured as he handed over his card with 82 strokes, 10 over par.
