UOC –National Sports Medicine Training Workshop

A world Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) certified officer, Sarah Kato has urged all active sportsmen to refrain from use of illegal drugs that might cost them a fortune in the sporting circles.
Sarah has made the revelations at the ongoing Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) specially organized medical workshop for all UOC affiliated sports doctors’ personnel.
“We always conduct random samples from athletes. Those that test positive to banned substances like nadronline among others are answerable to authorities, and risk being banned from sports”, she warned at the workshop running under the theme, “Achieving Peak Performance through delivering optimum sports medicine practices”.
The workshop being held at Kampala Imperial Royal Hotel started on Monday and will end on Thursday. Over 30 participants from at least 15 sporting disciplines are participating.
The facilitators of the course are Doctors: Robert Zavuga- chairman medical commission (away in Germany now), Kadoodoba, Emmanuel Ewochu, Robert Opoka, Micheal Aleku.
Others are Christopher Oluka, and Sarah Kato (WADA Certified doping control officers).
The participants have been taken through a cross section of topics to include Olympic movement concept and Olympic Games.
Other topics are Basic Life support, Olympic movement medical code, protecting movement medical code, protecting the child athlete from all forms of sports injuries, role of a sports doctor in modern day sports management, practical sessions (basic life support), physiotherapy, WADA anti-doping – role of athlete, coach and team physician, food supplements, role of radiography in examination of sports injuries, rehabilitation after injury, use of food supplements, diet and sports nutrition.
