The ‘Indian’ finally got his monthly returns on Saturday, thanks to a rare unexpected draw scuffed by home side Ezee Money Rhinos against Sadolin Mongers.
With three fixtures to the end of this season, Entebbe based Sadolin Mongers couldn’t ‘scuttle’ despite battling away from home. In the Rhino’s face, they pressed their case at Legends Rugby Grounds.
It initially appeared a perfect away performance and had the effect of silencing the crowd, when Mongers hit the mark for the opening penalty of the match.They missed another after a couple of minutes but remained 00-03, in the lead.
After a series of carries that edged visitors, Mongers to within touching distance line, Rhinos made the crucial last yard, scoring the first try of the match.
A group later that saw Rhinos at the losing end now gifted Mongers an immediate response, an Adrian Wasswa try, second of the game.
Home side Rhinos were rampant thereafter and even their second string front row had their visitors in considerable trouble. Ezee Money Rhinos’ James Musiitwa scored the ‘lets go to the locker room’ try, closing out first half at Rhinos 10:13 Mongers.
Scores were leveled after the breather, Byron Atubikire turned the screw again, nudging Rhinos back in front at the cost of two penalties.
While the home side clad in green jerseys enjoyed the lead, Sadolin Mongers this time extricated themselves from a bad ending.
Mongers’ Andrew Olweny (Man of the match), who has occasionally been called onto the national team, fell victim of foul as he powered his swift way to the Rhinos uprights.
Mongers’ 22 metre penalty leveled the scores, 16-16. Byron Atubikire penalty put Rhinos back in the lead,but Mongers left the crowd at the edge of their seats scoring the last penalty of the match.
In a post match interview, Ezee Money Rhinos loose head prop, Tchumkam expressed discontent settling for a draw. However, he promised better for the fans. Andrew rather expressed delight for his side’s performance. “Good game, good efforts, well done Mongers,” he said in a brief interview.
