KCC FC continued their gallant performance in the 2014 Orange CAF Champions league with a hard earned precious 2-2 away draw with Nkana FC in the first leg of the first round match played at Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe.
A first half goal from striker Tony Odur; his third in as many games in this campaign and a second half strike from the penalty by Brian Majwega was all the Ugandan side needed to hold much fancied home side which got their goals through Ronald Kampamba and Shadrack Musonda.
In Tanzania, Young Africans scored in the 82nd minute through captain Nadir ‘Cannavaro’ Haroub to beat defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt in a match played at National stadium, Dar es Salam. Ugandans Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza and Emmanuel Okwi featured for the Tanzanian side.
At Nyayo stadium in Nairobi, Daniel Sserunkuma and Haron Shakava were on target for reigning KPL Champions Gor Mahia but their efforts weren’t enough as Tunisia’s Esperance defeated K’Ogalo 3-2.
Ahmed Akaichi, Yannick Ndjeng and Haithen Jouwi netted for the Tunisian side in a game which had all four Ugandan players featuring for the Kenyan side.
Sserunkuma was joined by Israel Emuge, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Godfrey Walusimbi in the starting team. Sserunkuma’s goal was his second in the campaign and fourth of the season in five outings.
In Harare, Boban Zirintusa’s Dynamos FC were held to a barren draw by AS Vita Club of DR Congo. Zirintusa was part of the Zimbabwean side squad.
In South Africa, goals from Knowledge Musonda, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Mathew Rusike and Eric Mathoho saw home side Kaizer Chiefs destroy Mozambique’s Liga Muçulmana with a 4-0 victory; the biggest victory of all games on Saturday.
Ugandan defender Ivan Bukenya was a 90th substitute for Katsande in the game for Kaizer Chiefs.
At Cairo International stadium, Zamalek edged Angola’s Kabuscorp 1-0 thanks to defender Mahmoud Fathalla lone strike in the 58th minute.
In other games played on Saturday, Sudan’s El Hilal forced a barren away draw with Stade Malien of Mali in Bamako while Burundi’s Flambeau de I’Est beat Cameroon’s Coton Sport 1-0 in Bujumbura.
