Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has termed the journey to the country’s 2015 Nations cup football finals as a step by step process, calling respect for Madagascar, the nation’s first opponent.
“We shall approach game by game. Before we reach the group stages, you have to first beat Madagascar and the winner between Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea”, Micho said at Lugogo Stadium during FUFA /Sponsors’ official launch of the campaign dubbed ‘The road to Morocco’.
This followed a draw that was conducted at the Confederations of African Football (Caf) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday, pitting the Uganda Cranes in a second round qualifier against Barea’s Madagascar before the winner faces Mauritania or Equatorial Guinea.
Squad named on Wednesday:
Micho revealed that the national team squad of at least 35 players will be named this coming Wednesday during the weekly FUFA Press conference at Mengo, the F.A’s headquarters.
Madagascar is ranked 189th by FIFA on the current FIFA ratings while Uganda is 103 places above the nation sited on the Indian Ocean.
Should Uganda progress over the two stages, they will join four-time African champions Ghana, Togo, and Guinea in group E, with only top two teams in the seven groups and third best placed sides joining hosts Morocco for next year’s football.
Uganda’s last appearance at the Nations Cup came in 1978 in Ghana.
