Cecafa Nile Basin Tourney:
Opening Fixtures:
Victoria University (Uganda) 1 – 0 Malakia (South Sudan)
Al-Merreikh 3 – 0 Police
Al-Shandy 2 – 1 Dkhill
Murushid Jjuuko’s first goal ever for Sports Club Victoria University proved to be the match winner in the Ugandan team’s slim victory over South Sudan’s Malakia during their opening fixture of the Nile Basin tournament.
The defender, a mid season acquisition from Entebbe Football club struck in the 12th minute of the game handled by Kenyan officials, Andrew Othieno (center referee), Oliver Odhiambo (first assistant) and Ethiopia’s Tadese Tababal as the second assistant.
Despite the win, SCVU head coach, Morley Byekwaso was left disappointed for the many chances his charges put to waste.
In other matches played on the opening day in Sudan, El Merriekh overcome Police FC of Zanzibar 3-0 and Al-Shandy were 2-0 winners over Dkhill.
The matches resume on Saturday but SCVU gets back to action on Sunday with a date against Sudanese giants El Merriekh during an 8.00pm kickoff before wrapping up the group games against Polisi on Tuesday.
