WOODBALL WORLD CUP:
September 5th – 11th 2014:
In Sanya, China
Thirty six (36) woodball players have made the grade to represent Uganda Woodball team at the Woodball World Cup Championships in Sanya, China come September.
The world cup is scheduled to take place in the Chinese city of Sanya.
The top 12 players per gender were selected at the end of the second national trials held at MUBS, Nakawa over the weekend.
These 24 players will be joined by the top 12 juniors who excelled at the 5th ICPAU Juniors Woodball held at St Mark’s College, Namagooma.
Ndejje’s Onesmus Atamba scored 111 strokes to carry the day beating El- Mohammed Musisi by 8 strokes.
Atamba leapfrogged from 6th place before the second trials were held.
Musisi was the biggest mover having scored 119 that helped jump from 16th position.
“Sometimes, it takes self believe than anything else to perform well”, Musisi confessed to Kawowo Sports.
In the ladies’ category, Lillian Zawedde overcame 12 other players with 110 strokes beating Shamsa Nantege by 9 strokes.
17 male players participated at the daylong event while 13 ladies competed.
Team Uganda is expected to embark on a training schedule.
